JOHN FERRET: Born 20 November 1885, Bromley by Bow. His father was the Landlord of the Duke of Wellington, Devas St, where by 1901 John was working as a Potman and Barman. On 25 May 1911, a, aged 25 John married Jane (surname unknown) at Christ Church, West Ham.  Two daughters, Blanche and Rose were born during the next three years.  John worked as a labourer before enlisting at Stratford, East London, in September 1914. He joined the Lincolnshire Regiment, was wounded at Arras April 1917, shipped back to the UK for treatment and finally discharged as medically unfit on 18 May 1918. John and Jane celebrated the birth of a son (also called John) on 10 May 1918. John Snr died 17 July 1920 aged 35.
